Compared with 2024 Aluminum Alloy
2024 aluminum is also widely used in aerospace for its strength and toughness. However, 7075 T6 generally offers higher strength than 2024 T3/T4, making it the preferred choice for primary load-bearing landing gear structures.
While 2024 has relatively poor corrosion resistance (often requiring cladding), 7075, despite not being the most corrosion-resistant, provides a better balance of properties in many applications.
Compared with Titanium Alloys
Titanium alloys (such as Ti-6Al-4V) are known for their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance, making them ideal for landing gear components. However, their high cost and machining difficulty limit widespread use.
For non-critical load-bearing parts or cost-sensitive applications, 7075 T6 aluminum plate serves as an excellent alternative, balancing performance and affordability.
