Aerospace Grade 7075 Aluminum Plate Sheet
Interested in 7075 Aircraft-Grade Aluminum?
7075 aluminum plate is a high-strength, heat-treatable aluminum alloy that belongs to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy system. It is one of the most widely used aerospace-grade aluminum materials. Originally developed by ALCOA in the 1940s to replace steel in aircraft manufacturing, 7075 aluminum is now extensively used in aerospace, defense, transportation, and precision engineering industries.
Among all aluminum alloys, 7075 stands out for its exceptional strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and superior machinability. Especially in T6 or T651 temper, 7075-T6/T651 aluminum plates offer mechanical performance comparable to some steels, but with significantly lower weight and density.
Common Tempers for 7075 Aircraft Aluminum:
7075-T6: Standard high-strength temper, most commonly used.
7075-T651: T6-based with stress relief, ideal for large-size plates requiring superior flatness. Widely used in aircraft landing gear, frames, skins, etc.
7075-T7351: Enhanced resistance to stress corrosion cracking, with excellent mechanical and high-temperature performance.
7075 aluminum alloys are available in a wide range of tempers, including O, T6, T73, T76, T651, T7351, T7651, T6510, T6511, T73510, T76511, T652, T7352, etc.

Key Properties of 7075 Aerospace Aluminum
1.Outstanding Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Excellent strength-to-weight ratio: With a tensile strength of approximately 83,000 psi and a yield strength of 73,000 psi, 7075-T6 is as strong as steel but lighter, which helps aircraft fuel efficiency and payload.
2.Excellent Fatigue Resistance
Handles repeated stress cycles, ensuring long-term structural integrity and safety.
3.Heat Treatable
Mechanical properties can be significantly improved through heat treatment.
4.Excellent Machinability
Despite high strength, it allows precision machining of complex aerospace parts.
5.Moderate Corrosion Resistance
Less corrosion-resistant than some alloys, but surface treatments like anodizing can enhance protection.
6.Poor Weldability
Not easily welded using conventional methods; alternative joining techniques include riveting, bolting, and friction stir welding.
Aerospace Applications of 7075 Aluminum Plate
Airframe and Wing Structures: Upper wing skins, spars, stringers, and ribs where high strength-to-weight ratios are crucial.
Landing Gear Components: Subject to high impacts and stress during takeoff and landing.
Aircraft Fittings and Connectors: High-precision structural connection parts.
Non-High-Temperature Engine Parts: Components requiring high strength in cooler zones.
Missile and Rocket Casings: Lightweight and robust structural components.
Spacecraft Structures: Where every gram matters and resistance to extreme conditions is essential.
