Aluminum Rod is a solid cylindrical metal material made from pure aluminum or aluminum alloys, produced through processes such as hot extrusion, cold drawing, casting, or rolling. Thanks to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, workability, corrosion resistance, and thermal/electrical conductivity, it is widely used in machinery manufacturing, mold making, automotive components, aerospace, marine, construction hardware, electronics, power systems, and industrial equipment.
MC Aluminum manufactures high-quality aluminum round bars across various alloy series including 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 series, supporting customized diameters, lengths, temper conditions, and processing methods to meet diverse application requirements.
Alloy Series | Typical Grades | Features | Applications | |
1xxx | 1050 / 1060 / 1070 | Aluminum content ≥99.00%, with good electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance. | Commercial pure aluminum with excellent conductivity and workability | Busbars, electronics, thermal conductors |
2xxx | 2011 / 2014 / 2024 | The copper content is high (3%-5%), with high strength and good heat resistance, but poor corrosion resistance. | High strength and good machinability, suitable for demanding structural parts | Aerospace parts, bolts, mechanical components |
5xxx | 5052 / 5083 / 5754 | The magnesium content is 3%-5%, with low density, high strength and good corrosion resistance. | Excellent corrosion resistance and weldability | Marine, pressure vessels, transportation |
6xxx | 6061 / 6063 / 6082 | Contains magnesium and silicon, with medium strength, can be strengthened by heat treatment, and has excellent welding performance. | Medium strength, wear and corrosion resistance, excellent heat treatability | Molds, bicycle parts, architectural profiles |
7xxx | 7075 / 7050 / 7475 | The zinc content is high, with extremely high strength, but poor corrosion resistance. | Ultra-high strength, aerospace-grade materials | Aviation, high-stress components, mold bases |
Melting & Casting: Pure aluminum or alloy is melted, alloying elements added, and then cast into billets via semi-continuous or continuous casting.
Homogenization: Heat treatment to relieve internal stress and ensure uniform grain structure.
Extrusion: Billets are heated to 400–500°C and extruded into rods via extrusion presses.
Heat Treatment: Depending on the alloy type, processes like solution treatment and aging are performed to enhance strength and hardness.
Surface Treatment: Anodizing, coating, electrophoresis, etc., to improve corrosion resistance and aesthetics.
Based on Strength Requirements: Choose 7000 series for high strength (e.g., aerospace), 6000 series for medium strength (e.g., construction).
Based on Corrosion Resistance: 5000 or 6000 series is ideal for marine or chemical environments.
Based on Machinability: For complex machining, 6063 and similar alloys offer excellent workability.
Based on Budget: 1000 series is the most cost-effective; high-strength alloys tend to be more expensive.
